Anthropic and Amazon deepen AI alliance with 5GW capacity deal and new investment

Anthropic and Amazon have signed a much bigger infrastructure deal around Claude. Anthropic says it will spend more than $100 billion on AWS technology over the next decade, secure up to 5 gigawatts of new capacity for training and inference, and make Claude Platform available directly inside AWS. Amazon is adding $5 billion in new investment now, with the option to invest up to $20 billion more later.

What is new

This is more than a standard cloud agreement. Anthropic frames it as an expansion of training capacity, inference coverage in Europe and Asia, and commercial distribution for Claude through AWS. The companies also say more than 100,000 customers already run Claude on Amazon Bedrock. The mix of more capacity, tighter AWS integration, and fresh capital makes this a clear signal of how intense the battle for frontier AI and cloud infrastructure has become.
