Anthropic Forms Political Action Committee Amid Trump Administration Clash
Anthropic has registered a federal political action committee (PAC) with the Federal Election Commission. The PAC, named AnthroPAC, was officially filed on April 3, 2026, and is structured as an employee-funded PAC allowing Anthropic staff to voluntarily contribute up to $5,000 per candidate in the 2026 election cycle.
The timing is deliberate. Anthropic is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with the Pentagon, which cancelled a $200 million contract and labeled the company a "supply chain risk" after Anthropic raised concerns about the military application of its AI systems. A federal judge in California has temporarily blocked punitive actions against the company while the case proceeds.
AnthroPAC will operate with a bipartisan board of directors and support candidates from both parties who align with Anthropic's interests in shaping federal AI policy. The move signals that the company is now ready to fight its AI regulatory battles directly in Washington — not just in the courts.
It's a significant shift for a company that long positioned itself on responsible AI development over political influence. Competitors OpenAI and Google are already deeply embedded in Washington lobbying, and Anthropic now appears to be joining the fray at full speed.
