Anthropic Tests Claude Mythos: A Quantum Leap in AI Performance
Anthropic is reportedly testing a new internal AI model that could reshape the competitive landscape in the AI industry. The model, known internally as "Claude Mythos," is described as a step change in performance compared to existing Opus-tier models.
According to sources familiar with the development, Mythos shows substantial improvements in reasoning, coding, and cybersecurity capabilities — potentially exceeding anything Anthropic has publicly launched to date.
Anthropic has not confirmed the model's existence, but leaks from internal testing environments indicate the company is in an active evaluation phase. It remains unclear when, or whether, Mythos will be made available to external users.
The news comes closely after recent updates. Claude Sonnet 4.6 launched in February with a million-token context window and improved agentic search. Claude Opus 4.6, Anthropic's flagship model, is already set as default for paying users.
If Mythos delivers on its promise, it could mean Anthropic is crossing a new threshold in AI capability, further widening the gap with competitors like OpenAI and Google DeepMind.
Industry analysts note the timing is significant. In parallel, reports suggest Anthropic is considering an IPO as early as autumn 2026, reinforcing the image of a company in rapid growth with major ambitions.
