ChatGPT Unifies Google Drive and Turns Long Pastes into Attachments
OpenAI rolled out two ChatGPT updates on March 25–26, 2026 that make working with Google files and large text blocks noticeably cleaner.
The first change consolidates all Google file connectors under a single Google Drive app in ChatGPT. Previously, users had to connect Docs, Sheets, and Slides as separate apps. Everything is now unified with a shared action structure. Existing connections still work, but OpenAI recommends reconnecting to the new app for full functionality.
The second update concerns long text. Starting March 26, pastes exceeding 5,000 characters are automatically converted into an attachment rather than being dropped directly into the conversation window. This keeps the composer field tidy and prevents large blocks from consuming the entire context window.
Both changes are part of a broader strategy to turn ChatGPT from a chatbot into a work platform. Since March 2026, enterprise users have also gained write access to Google Docs and Sheets directly from ChatGPT, meaning the model can create and edit documents without the user leaving the interface.
For CIOs and IT leaders weighing Microsoft 365 Copilot against ChatGPT Enterprise, these are relevant signals. OpenAI is building deep integrations with Google's productivity suite, while Microsoft naturally stays within its own stack. The choice of AI platform is increasingly pulling along the choice of cloud ecosystem.
