Claude Down for Over an Hour – Anthropic Confirms Major Outage
Thousands of users experienced Anthropic's AI assistant Claude going dark on Tuesday morning, with the outage lasting over an hour. Anthropic confirmed the incident via its status page.
Reports from users and Anthropic's own status page indicate problems began around midday European time. Messages such as "overloaded" and timeout errors appeared for paying subscribers and API users alike.
Anthropic stated that engineers were actively working to restore the service. "We are currently seeing recovery, and our engineers are working to ensure no further recurrences," the status page read.
The outage came just a day after Anthropic launched its new computer-use feature in Claude Cowork and Claude Code, which lets the AI remotely control your Mac while you're away. It has not been confirmed whether the two events are connected.
For CIOs and teams relying on Claude as part of daily operations, the incident is a reminder of the importance of backup solutions and redundancy in AI workflows. An hour of downtime on a tool that many now treat as critical infrastructure can have meaningful productivity consequences.
