Databricks Commits $850M to UK Expansion
Databricks announced plans today to invest over $850 million in the UK over the next three years. The company will quadruple its London office footprint with a new 137,000-square-foot headquarters in Fitzrovia, serving as its new EMEA hub.
The UK and Ireland team currently exceeds 500 people and is expected to surpass 1,000 in the coming years. The investment targets AI talent acquisition, training business leaders in data and AI, and meeting growing demand for Lakebase and Genie products.
Lakebase is Databricks’ serverless Postgres database built for AI agents, while Genie lets any employee chat with business data and receive trusted answers. The company also continues its initiative to train 100,000 people across the UK and Ireland in data and AI skills by 2028.
Over 50 percent of FTSE 100 companies are already Databricks customers. The investment arrives as UK companies plan to increase AI investment by an average of 40 percent over the next two years.
For CIOs, this signals Databricks positioning aggressively as the enterprise data+AI platform in Europe, with Lakebase competing directly against traditional database providers.
