Fujitsu Launches AI Service That Modernizes Legacy Code and Cuts Work Time by 97 Percent
Fujitsu has launched Application Transform powered by Fujitsu Kozuchi, a generative AI service that automatically analyzes source code and generates design documents. The company claims the service reduces work time by approximately 97 percent and improves design document readability by 60 percent.
The service specifically targets legacy system modernization. It can analyze legacy source code, including COBOL, and automatically generate modern design documentation that makes it easier to understand, maintain, and migrate older systems.
Fujitsu is initially offering the service as SaaS in Japan, with global availability expected to follow. For organizations sitting on large legacy codebases, this could be transformative: instead of spending months on reverse engineering old code, AI can do the job in hours.
Kozuchi is Fujitsus AI platform that combines generative AI with domain expertise to solve concrete business problems. Application Transform is the latest module, addressing one of the most painful points in enterprise IT: understanding and documenting systems built decades ago.
For organizations running AS400, COBOL, or other legacy systems, the message is clear: AI-driven code analysis is maturing as a tool for real modernization, not just prototypes.
