Google Gemini now lets you import your full ChatGPT and Claude history
Google has rolled out a new tool that lets users import memories and full chat history from competing AI assistants directly into Gemini. This includes complete conversation logs from ChatGPT, Claude, and other platforms.
The feature is accessible through the Settings menu in Gemini and applies to personal Google Accounts for users aged 18 and older. The import tool supports ZIP files up to 5 GB, with up to five files per day.
Google introduced two separate mechanisms: one for transferring "memories" and preferences, and one for uploading full conversation histories. The memory transfer works by having the user copy a prompt into their existing AI system to generate a preference summary, which is then pasted into Gemini.
The features are not yet available in the EEA, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
Google is positioning this as part of reducing switching friction between AI platforms — clearly a move to pull users away from OpenAI and Anthropic in a period of intense competition.
