Google rolls out Personal Intelligence to all US users

Google has expanded its 'Personal Intelligence' feature to all users in the United States — a feature that allows Gemini's AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app to learn from your personal context, habits, and preferences to provide tailored answers.

What is Personal Intelligence?

Personal Intelligence is Google's bet on hyper-personalized AI. Since its launch earlier this year, users have been able to let Gemini connect to their Google account to learn who they are: what places they visit, what they're interested in, and what kind of help they need. The result is an assistant that doesn't just answer questions — it knows who you are.

Now Google is expanding this to everyone in the US. According to Google's blog, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: users are asking new types of questions they would never have typed into a search bar, and finding that the AI actually understands context.

What does this mean in practice?

  • AI Mode in Search taps into your personal Google history to give more relevant answers
  • The Gemini app can now provide recommendations based on travel habits, calendar, and interests
  • The feature is opt-in and built with privacy controls

A ZDNET journalist tested it and described it as "accurate in a useful — but slightly unsettling — way."

CIO perspective

For organizations already using Google Workspace, this is a signal worth heeding: the AI is learning from you, and this raises questions about data control and privacy in corporate environments. Think carefully about what context you want Gemini to have access to.

Personal Intelligence is currently only available in the US, but a European rollout will likely follow after GDPR approval.
