iOS 27 opens Siri to all AI assistants: Claude, Gemini and rivals can now integrate directly

Apple is making a historic move with iOS 27: for the first time, Siri will open up to third-party AI assistants. Reports from MacRumors and 9to5Mac published March 26, 2026, reveal that a new "Extensions" system will allow users to choose between ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and other AI services directly from Siri settings.

This marks a break from Apple's traditionally closed approach. Until now, Siri was exclusively connected to ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence. With iOS 27, Apple is reversing course, positioning itself as a neutral AI portal rather than an exclusive provider.

The backdrop is the ongoing partnership with Google, where Gemini models will power a new "Conversational AI Siri" at its core. But alongside this deal comes the open extensions system, allowing all major AI players to integrate.

The Extensions system is expected to be officially announced at WWDC 2026, starting June 8. Full rollout of Gemini-powered conversational Siri is expected with iOS 27 in the fall. Some Gemini features could arrive as early as iOS 26.5 in April or May.

What this means for enterprise leaders

For organizations running Apple device fleets, this means employees will soon be able to choose between enterprise-approved AI assistants directly from Siri. This opens opportunities for centralized AI governance — but also new challenges around data security and policy enforcement on iOS.

Apple appears to have learned from antitrust pressure. Rather than locking users to one AI, they are building a platform. The question is whether it actually ships, or whether WWDC delivers yet another promise of a smarter Siri.
