Jensen Huang: 'I think we've achieved AGI'
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made a bold claim on a new episode of the Lex Fridman podcast Monday: 'I think we've achieved AGI.'
AGI, or artificial general intelligence, is a contested term that has long represented the ultimate goal of the AI industry. Huang responded to Fridman's question about AGI timelines with: 'I think it's now. I think we've achieved AGI.' Fridman, who defines AGI as an AI able to start and grow a successful tech company worth over $1 billion, noted Huang would get a lot of people excited.
Huang partially walked back his statement, pointing to millions of AI agents running worldwide today. He suggested their combined capabilities may constitute what many think of as AGI, even if no single agent fully replaces human cognition.
The comments come as major tech companies redefine what AGI means. The OpenAI-Microsoft contract contains key clauses tied to when AGI is deemed achieved, potentially triggering large financial provisions.
Nvidia is the world's most valuable company at over $4 trillion market cap. Huang saying we're already there sends a strong signal to the entire industry.
