Meta taps AWS Graviton to scale agentic AI

Meta has signed a new deal with AWS to bring tens of millions of Graviton cores into its AI stack. That makes Meta one of the world’s largest Graviton customers and signals a shift in AI infrastructure economics away from a pure GPU story toward CPU-heavy workloads around reasoning, search, code generation, and orchestration.

What’s new

Both Meta and AWS say the first deployment starts with tens of millions of Graviton cores. Meta says agentic AI is changing infrastructure requirements because production workloads now involve continuous reasoning, multi-step execution, and coordination across many processes. AWS frames the same point around Graviton5, which it says is built for these CPU-intensive tasks.

The agreement also extends Meta’s existing use of AWS and Amazon Bedrock at scale. That makes this more than a routine capacity deal. It shows how hyperscalers are starting to package custom silicon, inference, and agent tooling into one operating stack.

Why this matters

For CIOs and platform teams, the signal is straightforward: agentic AI is not just a bigger-GPU problem. As AI moves from model training into production, more of the cost sits in routing, state management, search, tool calls, and long-running execution. That makes CPU architecture, energy efficiency, and cloud economics much more important.

If Meta is scaling these workloads on AWS Graviton, enterprise agent architecture may become more heterogeneous than the market narrative suggests today. That has implications for procurement, cloud design, and how companies split AI workloads between their own infrastructure and hyperscalers.
