Meta Platforms has introduced a stock option programme for its senior leadership team, tying executive payouts directly to dramatic share price milestones. The move signals the company's all-in bet on artificial intelligence as its primary growth engine.

The plan covers CFO Susan Li, CTO Andrew Bosworth, CPO Chris Cox, and COO Javier Olivan. Mark Zuckerberg is not included, a deliberate signal that accountability for AI execution extends beyond the founder to the entire leadership team.

The targets are steep. The lowest tranche requires Meta's stock to climb 88.2 percent to $1,116 per share. The most ambitious tranche demands a more than sixfold increase to $3,727. Meta shares closed at $592.92 on March 24. The deadline to hit these targets is February 14, 2028.

Context matters here. Meta spent much of 2025 reorganising its AI efforts after Llama 4 models failed to attract strong developer interest. Rivals OpenAI and Anthropic have strengthened their positions, and Meta faces pressure to reassert itself as a leading AI player.

In addition to the options, most executives will receive increased restricted stock awards totalling $170 million at last close, vesting on a quarterly basis.

For investors and industry observers, this is a clear signal: Meta is betting heavily that its AI push over the next two years will generate massive shareholder value. If they succeed, it will reshape both the company and the broader competitive landscape.
