Microsoft Launches Release Wave 1: Agentic AI Across the Entire Enterprise Stack
Microsoft rolled out Release Wave 1 2026 from April 1st, injecting agentic AI into every layer of its business application stack. Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 Copilot all receive agents capable of acting, coordinating, and completing tasks autonomously.
The centrepiece is Copilot Cowork, which became generally available on April 1st — a shared workspace where multiple users can interact with an AI agent in real time. Copilot Studio gains multi-agent orchestration via Microsoft Fabric integration and open Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocols, enabling networks of agents that communicate across systems and tools.
For CIOs, the licensing story matters: Microsoft 365 E7 arrives via CSP on May 1st, bundling E5, Entra Suite, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and the new Microsoft Agent 365 in a single licence. That makes it easier to govern and scale agents across an organisation.
Release Wave 1 rolls out through September 2026. For enterprises on the Microsoft stack, this means agentic infrastructure is now built in — not an optional add-on.
