Microsoft Launches Copilot Wave 3: A Personal AI Agent for Every M365 Employee
Microsoft announced "Wave 3" of Microsoft 365 Copilot on Thursday, March 26, at its AI Tour event in Seoul. The update introduces what the company describes as a "personalized agent experience" powered by a new system called Work IQ.
Wave 3 represents a gear shift for Copilot in M365. Where previous versions largely functioned as an advanced chat assistant within Teams, Outlook, and Word, the ambition now is for Copilot to act as a dedicated digital colleague that knows your tasks, projects, and priorities.
Work IQ is the hub of this transformation. The system builds a personal work model for each user based on email, calendar, meeting history, documents, and collaboration patterns. Copilot uses this model to proactively suggest actions, automate repetitive tasks, and coordinate across applications.
Microsoft highlighted three key use cases at the Seoul event: automatic pre-meeting briefings generated from all relevant documents and emails; autonomous agent work that handles post-meeting follow-ups without the user needing to initiate anything; and prioritization assistance to help employees focus on what actually matters during a busy workday.
For enterprise CIOs already deep in the Microsoft stack, Wave 3 is more than a product update. It's Microsoft's answer to the question of who owns the agentic AI workflow in the enterprise — and Microsoft is making a very strong bid for that ownership.
