Microsoft Launches MAI-Image-2: Next-Gen AI Image Model in Copilot and Bing

Microsoft has quietly rolled out the second-generation version of its proprietary AI image model, MAI-Image-2, in Copilot and Bing Image Creator.

What's New in MAI-Image-2?

According to Microsoft, the new model brings:

• Enhanced photorealism – images look more realistic and detailed
• More reliable text generation in images – historically a weak point for AI image generators
• General quality improvements over the first generation

The model is rolling out now in Copilot and Bing Image Creator for all users.

Microsoft's Own AI Image Track

MAI-Image-2 (Microsoft AI Image 2) is Microsoft's internally developed image model – a sign that the company is increasingly building its own AI models rather than relying exclusively on its OpenAI partnership for image generation.

This is an interesting strategic development: Microsoft is diversifying its AI model stack and reducing dependency on third-party image models.
