Microsoft Launches MAI-Image-2: New AI Image Model for Copilot and Bing
Microsoft has launched its second-generation AI image generation model, MAI-Image-2, promising dramatically improved photorealism, accurate skin tones, and natural lighting. The model is now rolling out to Microsoft Copilot and Bing Image Creator.
What's New?
MAI-Image-2 was developed in close collaboration with photographers, designers, and visual storytellers. The goal was a model that generates images that "feel like they exist in the world" — with natural light, accurate skin tones, and environments that feel lived-in.
Key improvements include:
- Photorealism: Dramatic improvement in natural lighting and realistic environments
- Text generation: Accurate in-image text for infographics, slides, and diagrams
- Faster workflows: Fewer manual corrections after generation
According to Microsoft, MAI-Image-2 is now ranked #3 among AI labs globally for text-to-image generation.
Availability
The model is available for preview on the MAI Playground and is actively rolling out to Copilot and Bing Image Creator. API access via Microsoft Foundry for developers is planned.
What This Means for CIOs
For enterprise users, this is noteworthy: better image generation built into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem means marketing and design teams can produce high-quality visuals without leaving the tools they already use. Lower barrier for creative production, higher internal capacity.
