OpenAI Launches Exclusive Cybersecurity AI for Selected Partners
OpenAI announced today a limited rollout of its new cybersecurity product, which will be made available to a select group of companies and partners through their "Trusted Access for Cyber" program.
Limited Access Due to Security Concerns
The new product builds on OpenAI's advanced AI models but will only be available to a limited circle of companies due to concerns about the potential misuse of advanced cyber capabilities.
Sasha Baker, OpenAI's head of national security policy, specifically mentioned a new model under development codenamed "Spud," emphasizing that cybersecurity is a primary focus ahead of its release.
Part of Broader Security Initiative
The announcement is part of OpenAI's "Trusted Access for Cyber" framework, which was officially introduced in February 2026. This initiative aims to ensure responsible deployment of enhanced cyber capabilities, alongside GPT-5.3-Codex, which OpenAI described as its most cyber-capable frontier model.
Strategic Positioning
The launch comes as the AI industry increasingly focuses on defensive cybersecurity, with competitors like Anthropic also announcing similar initiatives with their Claude Mythos models.
OpenAI has also committed $10 million in API credits to strengthen cyber defense through its Cybersecurity Grant Program.
This development marks an important step toward more controlled and responsible deployment of powerful AI tools in cybersecurity.
