Perplexity Launches Personal Computer: AI Running Continuously on Your Mac mini
Perplexity has launched "Personal Computer," a local deployment of the company's Computer agent platform. The idea is simple and powerful: a dedicated Mac mini runs the Perplexity assistant Comet continuously, with persistent access to local files, applications, and active sessions.
This is a fundamentally different concept from cloud-based AI assistants. Instead of starting fresh with each query, Comet remembers what you were working on last time, can plan and execute tasks in the background, and operates locally where the data actually resides.
Perplexity is positioning this directly against Microsoft's Copilot and Apple's Siri. The solution doesn't just answer questions – it acts on behalf of the user, takes control of the screen, navigates apps, and executes multi-step tasks.
For companies with sensitive data they don't want in the cloud, local AI agents are an attractive model. The Personal Computer concept is also a clear indication that the AI industry is moving toward dedicated hardware: one machine, always on, always ready.
The launch is currently only in the U.S., but Perplexity has signaled international expansion during 2026. Pricing has not been confirmed but is expected to be based on Mac mini hardware plus subscription.
