Salesforce transforms Slack into AI operating system with 30 new features
Salesforce has launched over 30 new AI features for Slack, transforming Slackbot from a simple chatbot into what the company calls an "agentic operating system" for enterprises.
The most notable additions include reusable AI skills where users define specific tasks for Slackbot, a deep research mode for multi-step investigations, and meeting intelligence that transcribes and summarizes meetings from Zoom and Google Meet.
Slackbot can now also perform CRM tasks like tracking deals and adding contacts by analyzing conversations in channels. Through MCP client integration, Slackbot connects to over 2,600 apps in the Slack Marketplace and 6,000 apps from Salesforce AppExchange.
Perhaps most controversially, a new desktop activity monitoring feature allows Slackbot to operate outside the Slack application with privacy controls, listening to meetings and viewing screen content to offer proactive suggestions.
Features are rolling out in phases starting April 2026. Some are available on Slack's free and Pro plans in limited capacity.
For CIOs, this means Slack is moving from a communication tool to a central AI hub. The question is whether employees will embrace or resist an increasingly "intelligent" workplace.
