Snowflake makes AI budgets generally available
Snowflake has made budgets for AI features generally available. The update lets companies track and control credit consumption for AI Functions, Cortex Code, Cortex Agents, and Snowflake Intelligence across teams and cost centers.
What is new
According to Snowflake’s official release note, AI features can now be added as shared resources inside custom budgets. By tagging users that belong to specific business units, organizations can see exactly which groups are consuming AI credits instead of treating usage as one undifferentiated cost bucket.
That makes it easier to set internal limits, reporting, and accountability around generative AI usage at scale. It is especially relevant for enterprises testing multiple AI tools in parallel and needing tighter control over recurring spend.
Why this matters
For many companies, the core question is no longer whether to use AI, but how to govern its cost. Snowflake’s GA release points to a broader market shift: AI is moving from experimentation to a budgeted operating expense, and platform vendors are being pushed to build financial controls directly into the product.
Source and date validation
The original source is Snowflake’s own release note, "Apr 10, 2026: Budgets for AI features (General availability)." The story is therefore within the 48-hour window and qualifies as a valid fresh news item.
