Spotify Tests Tool to Stop AI Music Impersonating Real Artists

Spotify is rolling out a new detection system to stop AI-generated music from being attributed to real artists on its platform. The tool is a direct response to a wave of fake tracks imitating well-known musicians.

The pressure is mounting. Sony Music recently demanded the removal of over 135,000 AI songs impersonating its artists on streaming services. With Spotify's new system, such content can be flagged and marked automatically.

The context is that AI music tools have become so capable that listeners struggle to distinguish between authentic and synthetic recordings. Fake tracks get attributed to real artists, stealing play counts and potentially royalties.

For the music industry, this is a turning point. Streaming platforms are now being forced to take active responsibility for content authenticity, in the same way social media platforms once had to grapple with fake news and deepfakes.

For businesses using music in marketing or content production, it's worth reviewing which tools and licenses are actually in use.
