Google is testing new, richer image editing tools in Gemini, where users can explain exactly what changes they want made to AI-generated images. Simultaneously, SynthID technology — developed with DeepMind — is being rolled out to watermark AI content at the pixel level.
What Is SynthID?
SynthID is an invisible watermarking technology that DeepMind developed to mark AI-generated content. The marks are invisible to the naked eye but can be detected by machines — and survive editing, compression, and format conversion.
The idea is to ensure traceability: if an image has been generated or significantly edited by Gemini, it should be possible to verify this automatically, even as the image spreads across platforms.
Richer Editing Interface
The new editing tools let users:
