Google Brings Gemini to Translate: Real-Time In-Ear Language Translation

Google has begun rolling out a new feature in the Google Translate app that uses the Gemini model to deliver real-time translation directly through earbuds. The feature, called "Live Translate," translates conversations and media content in real time without noticeable delay.

The update was confirmed on April 4, 2026, and is rolling out to iPhone users and additional countries over the coming weeks.

The move is a natural extension of Google's ambition to make cross-language communication frictionless. With the Gemini model at its core, accuracy and contextual understanding surpass previous translation tools.

In parallel, Google has expanded Gemini access in Android Auto. From April 3, 2026, a more conversational AI assistant is rolling out to more Android Auto users.

Both updates are part of a broader Gemini rollout across Google's products and platforms throughout the first half of 2026.
