Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Braze, one of the major customer engagement platforms for consumer brands, for approximately 5.66 billion dollars. Salesforce plans to connect Braze's real-time engine and AI decisioning to Marketing Cloud, its customer data and its Agentforce agent platform. For companies that use Braze, this means a new owner for a tool that often runs a large share of their communication with customers.

Salesforce announced the agreement in a press release on 20 October 2026 and on its official X account the same day at 14:01 Oslo time. Holders of Braze Class A common stock will receive 47.50 dollars in cash per share. The 5.66 billion dollar figure is stated as enterprise value.

What Salesforce is buying

Braze makes software that sends personalised messages to customers in mobile apps, on websites, by email, SMS and WhatsApp, based on what customers actually do. The platform updates customer profiles continuously and adapts customer journeys while they are under way. Salesforce writes that Braze powers trillions of messages and journey actions each year.

The AI layer is called BrazeAI. According to the press release, it optimises content, offers, channels and timing for each customer. Braze itself describes it as a way for marketers to combine and activate AI agents, models and features across the platform.

Braze has approximately 2,770 customers. Salesforce names Canva, Instacart, Urban Outfitters and Venmo among them. The company is headquartered in New York with 15 offices across the Americas, EMEA and APAC.

Agentforce at the centre

Salesforce justifies the deal by saying AI is raising the bar for marketers, who according to the company need agentic solutions that can understand customers, make decisions and act in real time. After the transaction closes, Salesforce expects Braze to complement all four layers of its architecture: Data 360, Customer 360, Agentforce and SIForce.

Patrick Stokes, President of Applications and Marketing at Salesforce, says that Braze combined with Marketing Cloud, CRM and Data 360 will improve every customer interaction. Braze CEO and co-founder Bill Magnuson says Braze will continue building as Braze and investing in its customers and partners.

Both companies say they share a commitment to an open, composable approach that gives customers flexibility across data, tools and partners. The press release does not describe how that will be ensured in practice.

Approval and timing

The deal has not closed. It requires approval by Braze's shareholders and the required regulatory approvals. Salesforce expects it to close in what the company calls fiscal year 2028, but gives no date. The press release does not state which competition authorities must approve the deal, nor what happens to Braze's prices, contracts, product roadmap or data storage after the takeover.

What it means for Norwegian business leaders

Assessment: The acquisition is a clear sign that the large platform vendors are consolidating customer data, marketing and AI agents under one supplier. That can bring tighter integration, but also stronger dependency.

  • Companies that use Braze should review their contract now: term, price adjustment, termination clauses and what happens on a change of ownership. Nothing in the press release says the terms will change, but the owner will.
  • Organisations that use both Salesforce and Braze may get a tighter link between customer data, marketing and Agentforce. The benefit should be weighed against the risk of tying more of their customer communication to a single vendor.
  • Braze processes large volumes of personal data about customers. After the takeover, the data protection officer should check the data processing agreement, sub-processors and where data is stored, since the press release says nothing about this.
