WordPress.com Now Lets AI Agents Write and Publish Content

WordPress.com is making one of the most consequential moves in the history of web publishing: AI agents can now write, edit, and publish content directly on customers' websites.

Announced Friday, the new capabilities allow website owners to give natural language instructions to AI agents that handle the rest. Creating blog posts, landing pages, and About pages, managing comments, updating metadata, and organizing categories with tags can all be handed off entirely to a machine.

WordPress powers 43 percent of all websites on the internet. The hosted WordPress.com platform sees 409 million unique visitors every month. When a platform at that scale opens its publishing layer to AI agents, the implications for the web are enormous.

The foundation for this shift was laid last autumn when WordPress.com added support for Model Context Protocol (MCP), the standard that lets AI assistants connect to applications and access contextual data. Now, that read access has become write access.

All agent actions are tracked in the site's activity log, giving owners a clear audit trail and the ability to reverse changes.

For businesses using CMS platforms, this represents a fundamental shift in what a lean team can accomplish. Tasks that previously required an editor, a developer, and an SEO consultant can now be delegated to an agent running continuously in the background. The question is no longer whether AI can produce content — it is whether that content is worth reading.
